Oakland Unified School District

Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has worked on the development and implementation of high-quality instructional materials for multilingual learners.

With support from EBC, the OUSD team was able to:

• Create effective English Language Development (ELD) lessons aligned with the California ELD standards.

• Developed approximately 25 lessons per grade level for English Learners Education English-Language Arts curriculum, all of which are free and accessible for educators throughout the district.

• Created a strong team of educator leaders who create, teach, and advocate for these high-quality ELD lessons. Established guiding principles and a framework for ELD lesson design, with 2-4 weeks of designated ELD lesson materials.

By combining high quality with sustainability, the Oakland Unified School School District has created a strong foundation for multilingual learners in their schools.
