Oakland Unified School District
OUSD is working with three dual language schools to transform their one-way programs that primarily serve Spanish-speaking MLLs, into two-way programs that serve students from diverse language backgrounds who live in the community. Specifically, they are focused on low-income Black students and a growing number of students whose first language is Mayan Mam.
To that end, OUSD is partnering with SEAL to support educators and leaders at these three school sites to deepen the quality of their dual language programming and instruction. EBC’s funds are being used to support an OUSD staff person who is working closely with SEAL and the educators and administrators to ensure successful and sustainable implementation.
The 2024-25 school year will be a pilot with the intention to roll in another group of educators and leaders the subsequent year.
